BFA thesis show piece by contemporary painter, Lauren Purje, 2009

Artist’s Statement:

My work exists somewhere between confrontation and escapism.  With a world full of questions and a ever-growing library of answers, I feel as though art has a place in relieving some of our everyday anxieties.  I view the surface of a painting as both a place for reflection and as a playground for creativity.  I wish to provide a little consolation with humor, because as Oscar Wilde once wrote “Life is far too important to be taken seriously.”
